(July 2015) – When it comes time to add to his fleet the priority for rental company owner, Nigel McKinley is always to exceed the standards he sets for his business, so he chooses Merlo time and time again.
Nigel owns and operates Uphire, an award-winning hire company based in Jamisontown in NSW. Uphire is the company that is the 2015 National Hire and Rental Company of the Year (under $5 million). In 2014 Uphire was awarded Australian Small Business Champions for Growth. The company services customers in mining, construction, building maintenance, events, aviation, materials handling and manufacturing.
“We now have a range of Merlos, from 2.5T through to 6T and all of them are well received by our clients. They are a top-of-the-line machine. We find a lot of our customers specifically asking for them instead of some of our other brands, it’s because they’re easy to use and versatile,” Nigel says.
He says one of the key values in his business is continuous improvement.
“We continually measure performance and our results, we never sit and rest on what we know, we always want to become better, I believe this is why we succeed.”
“One of the measures we use is cost of servicing. We’ve found that Merlos are a high quality machine that are cheaper to service over the life of the machine so running costs are low,” Nigel says.
Given there is such a focus on high quality of work and high standards, it naturally follows that Nigel would choose Merlo telehandlers for his fleet.
“With any piece of equipment it’s definitely a case of you get what you pay for. We have just accepted delivery of the new Merlo 30.8 plus and it’s already out on a job. We’re confident that it will deliver on exactly what the customer needs.
“We bought Merlo 30.8 plus because it’s the luxury car of telehandlers. The controls are smooth and there are standard features that you’d have to pay extra for from another brand.”
